Adding a feed

Open Discover and paste any website address into the search field. Gather looks for the site's RSS or Atom feed and offers it for you to follow, so you do not need to hunt down the feed URL yourself. Discover also lists hand-picked sources grouped by topic. Links using the feed:// scheme open in Gather directly.

A feed is not updating

Gather fetches feeds directly from the publisher, so an empty or stale feed usually means the site is down, has moved its feed, or has stopped publishing one. Pull to refresh first, then open the source in a browser to confirm the feed still works. If the feed is fine and Gather still misses items, send us the feed URL.

Missing dates or wrong article text

Some publishers stamp items with unusual date formats or put a linked site's article in their feed. Gather works around the common cases, but if an article shows the wrong body or no date at all, the feed URL and the article title are enough for us to reproduce it.

Summaries and the on-device model

Summaries are generated by a language model that runs on your phone, which is why the model has to be downloaded once before summaries work. The smallest option is around 400 MB and the largest a little over 1 GB, so download on Wi-Fi and leave the space free. A long article can take some seconds on older hardware.

If summaries are slow, switch to the smaller model. If you do not want them at all, turn the feature off in Settings, and the downloaded model can be removed from the same screen.

Offline reading and storage

Articles you open are cached so they stay readable without a connection. Everything Gather stores lives on your device: clearing the cache in Settings frees the space, and uninstalling the app removes all of it.

Ads and ad privacy choices

Gather shows occasional in-feed ads through Google AdMob. Your available consent and personalization choices are in Settings → Ad privacy choices, and your device's own advertising controls apply as well. See the privacy policy for what is collected.

Beta builds

Gather is still pre-release. iOS beta builds are distributed through TestFlight; for an Android build, email us and we will add you. Beta versions can change behavior between updates, so keep anything you cannot lose out of a beta app.
