Adding a feed

Open Discover and paste any website address into the search field. gather looks for the site's RSS or Atom feed and offers it for you to follow, so you do not need to hunt down the feed URL yourself. You can also search sources by name, follow Reddit, YouTube, Bluesky, Mastodon, newsletters, and more from the source-type tiles, or browse hand-picked sources grouped by topic. Links using the feed:// scheme open in gather directly.

A feed is not updating

gather fetches feeds directly from the publisher, so an empty or stale feed usually means the site is down, has moved its feed, or has stopped publishing one. Pull to refresh first, then open the source's Repair source screen, or open the site in a browser to confirm the feed still works. If the feed is fine and gather still misses items, send us the feed URL.

Missing dates or wrong article text

Some publishers stamp items with unusual date formats or put a linked site's article in their feed. gather works around the common cases, but if an article shows the wrong body or no date at all, the feed URL and the article title are enough for us to reproduce it.

Summaries and the on-device model

Summaries are generated by a language model that runs on your phone. On an iPhone with Apple Intelligence turned on, gather uses it and there is nothing to download. Otherwise a model has to be downloaded once before summaries work. The smallest option is around 400 MB and the largest a little over 1 GB, so download on Wi-Fi and make sure you have the space. A long article can take several seconds on older hardware.

If summaries are slow, switch to a smaller model in Settings. Summaries only run when you ask for one, and a downloaded model can be removed from the same screen to free the space.

Offline reading and storage

Articles you open are saved so they stay readable without a connection, and you can keep individual articles or add them to your reading queue. Settings → Storage for offline sets how much space gather prepares ahead of time, with Keep up sources first and a Wi-Fi-only option. The same screen can clear prepared pages and clean up expired articles. Everything gather stores lives on your device (plus your own iCloud or Google Drive if you turn on sync), and uninstalling the app removes the on-device copy.

Ads and ad privacy choices

gather shows occasional in-feed ads through Google AdMob. Your available consent and personalization choices are in Settings → Ad privacy choices, and your device's own advertising controls apply as well. See the privacy policy for what is collected.

Removing ads and restoring your purchase

A single one-time purchase in Settings removes the in-feed ads for good; there is no subscription. On a new phone or after reinstalling, open the same screen and tap Restore purchases. The App Store or Google Play confirms the purchase and nothing is charged again. Purchases do not transfer between iOS and Android, and ads on publishers' own web pages are not affected.
